Authentic Me...
- likes to feel, laugh, cry, swear (a lot). I'm more than a bit irreverent, but consummately diplomatic.
- loves stories about true crime and magic and love and elevation. Authentic me is a single parent who loves loves loves my kids. - is a wine snob who loves treasure hunting, poker, movies and tv. - always loves to learn new things and is constantly researching or studying something new, which is another reason I love narrating- there is always, always, always something new to learn and master. |
So you're here! Welcome, welcome, welcome! A little about me- I am bi-racial, African-American/White, the oldest of 8 children, and we were always telling each other stories, either making them up or reading them- so I have a deep, almost spiritual appreciation for the art of story-telling via the spoken word. I mean, really- before there was written language, people told each others stories. I love that I am part of a tradition that spans thousands of years.
I'm a Rocky Mountain girl at heart, from Colorado, and currently living in the Ozarks.
My performing career started very young, basically when I started pretending to not be shy. I was a member of the Colorado Springs Children's Chorale, and then performed throughout high school and various pageants and competitions and won several awards for visual arts. I then studied music theater and dance at UNC, was Captain of the UNC Sugarbears Dance Team and member of the Pride of the Rockies Marching Band, was a member of their acclaimed Vocal Jazz Ensemble, leaving to do Dinner Theater and commercial and background on camera work while singing in a cover band.
I was a professional cheerleader and choreographer - choreographed for various USO productions. Once I had my first child, I went back to college at UCCS to study political science and biology and headed the UCCS Dance Team and taught at the local talent agency.
I went to law school at CU Boulder, was the SBA/ABA rep for my law school, Vice President of the Black Law Students Association, Phi Alpha Delta member, had another child during my last year, and worked for legal aid. After leaving law, I worked as a fine artist (painter) and had shows in Boulder and Denver and was commissioned for pieces with Boulder County.
With my legal expertise and eye for art and detail, I started a business dealing in art, antiques, collectibles and designer goods, which carried me through and supported my growing family.
But performing always called to me. As an avid audiobook listener, it seemed like the perfect progression, and felt like I had come full-circle.
